With a six-wicket victory over the Delhi Capitals in the 16th match of the IPL 2023 in Delhi, the five-time champion Mumbai Indians ultimately got their tournament going.
Cameron Green, who was undefeated while his team won, stated that he believes MI’s victory over DC will serve as a springboard for the rest of their season. MI, who finished last in the points table in 2022, did not have a good start to the season with two consecutive losses.
The Australian added that he anticipated a much earlier conclusion to the game as opposed to a nail-biting finish. MI required two runs off the final delivery, but Tim David and Green were too fast to complete the task for the visitors.
“We probably expected the game to end much sooner, but we’re glad we came out on top. “I didn’t want to cramp (while running in the final ball), so I took off my helmet and I knew there were two there, but mercifully they both came off,” Green told India Today.
There was urgency, but it was so enjoyable.
“The plan (when I stepped to the plate) was to reach two or three boundaries, and thankfully it worked out. There was pressure, but it was so much joy to get ten minutes over. Moments like these are what you wait for. Hopefully, this victor will serve as a springboard for our campaign,” he added.
While David contributed 13 runs off 11 balls to Mumbai’s cause, the expensive all-rounder scored 17 runs off 8 balls, including sixes and fours. Delhi Capitals posted a 173-run target against the Rohit Sharma-led side, with the visiting captain contributing 65 runs off 45 balls from his end. Ishan Kishan (31 off 26) and Tilak Varma (41 off 29) did the rest of the work to give MI their first victory of the season after Rohit’s solid innings.
