Prithvi Shaw has been selected as one of 17 players of Maharashtra’s squad for the All India Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament. This will be Shaw’s first event since moving from Mumbai to Maharashtra in July.
Prithvi Shaw asked Mumbai for a no-objection certificate after being withdrawn from the 2024/25 Ranji Trophy squad owing to poor fitness and indiscipline.
His most recent Mumbai match was the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 final.
Ruturaj Gaikwad is also part of the squad, which will be led by middle-order batsman Ankit Bawne. Gaikwad will be ready to play his first professional match since his elbow injury in the IPL 2025.
However, it has been claimed that Gaikwad and wicketkeeper-batsman Saurabh Nawale may depart after Maharashtra’s first match to join the West Zone squad in Bengaluru for the next Duleep Trophy.
Ayush Mhatre named Mumbai skipper
Mumbai will be led by 18-year-old Ayush Mhatre. Mhatre recently led India Under-19 during their recent multi-format tour of England. Mhatre was Gaikwad’s replacement in Chennai Super Kings, and which he showed glimpses of his prowess in limited time. He was also the leading run-scorer (340 runs in four innings) in the red-ball games against England Lions.
Mumbai’s squad also includes Sarfaraz Khan and his younger brother Musheer. The latter suffered a fracture in the neck region in a road accident in September in 2024 and missed the domestic season afterwards. The spin-bowling all-rounder’s lone appearance since recovering was for Punjab Kings in the Qualifier 1 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2025.
