Out-of-favour On June 8, India batsman and North Mumbai Panthers skipper Prithvi Shaw lit up the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai with a scorching 75 off 34 balls in their T20 Mumbai League match against Triumph Knights MNE. However, the team had already been eliminated from the tournament.
Shaw opened the innings with Divyansh Saxena and began quietly before changing gears in the fourth over, hitting a six and three consecutive fours off Parth Naik. The onslaught continued in the very next over, when Shaw smashed Minad Manjrekar to the railings, scoring 26 runs off the over, including five boundaries down the ground.
He reached his half-century on the final ball of the powerplay, sneaking a single to midwicket off Shreyas Gurav, the 23rd delivery he faced. The youngster, who famously guided India to victory at the U-19 World Cup in 2018, continued to assault after the powerplay, falling for 75 in the tenth over off a Suryansh Shedge delivery caught by Naik. His stunning performance included 12 fours and three sixes.
Despite Prithvi Shaw fireworks in the match, North Mumbai Panthers have already been eliminated from the competition.
They are at the bottom of the points table, having won only one of their four matches. Triumph Knights MNE, who failed to advance and finished fifth, were also eliminated. The North Mumbai Panthers won the T20 Mumbai League in 2019, while the Triumph Knights were the first champions.
Eagle Thane Strikers, NaMo Bandra Blasters, SoBo Mumbai Falcons, and Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals are the four teams who will compete in the semi-finals. The semi-finals are slated on Tuesday, June 10, at Mumbai’s historic Wankhede Stadium.
