R Ashwin, on the other side, advised team management and supporters to support Kamboj and allow the 24-year-old more time to adjust to international cricket.
Anshul Kamboj made his international debut in the fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, which is now taking place at Old Trafford in Manchester. The kid was introduced to the team as an injured replacement for Arshdeep Singh. Kamboj had the opportunity to display his talent at the greatest level, but he failed to make an impression.
Kamboj bowled 18 overs, conceding 89 runs at an economy rate of 4.90. He took a single wicket of Ben Duckett. Only Shardul Thakur has fewer overs (11) than him. The Mumbai all-rounder was also the only bowler to give runs at a higher economy rate (5) than Kamboj.
Some fans and experts questioned Kamboj’s selection, citing his average bowling pace of under 130 kph. England’s hitters had little trouble scoring against him. Joe Root was spotted taking a few steps towards the bowler and smashing him for runs on multiple occasions.
“It is critical that we support our players when they are not having a good time. Even if Anshul plays ten Tests and fails to perform well, it is fine. A guy from Haryana worked extremely hard to get to India. It remains a success story. We should remember that he has arrived here. “It is a success story,” Ashwin stated on his YouTube channel ‘Ash ki Baat’.
“We haven’t gotten there yet, so let’s be compassionate towards them. We must support our players. If he does well, everyone will praise him. When someone has a difficult day, we should support them. If he isn’t good enough, he will be dropped, which is fine. But he has made an effort. “Let us appreciate the effort,” he added.
Shubman Gill should be proud of himself: R Ashwin
Ashwin lauded India for getting themselves into a winning position in every Test match in the series. The former India off-spinner said that new Test captain Shubman Gill should be proud of himself as he is leading a young side from the front.
“Almost in every game we are in a position to win, in this game also we are fighting to draw. Shubman Gill should be proud of himself. A youngster leading for the first time away from home is allowed to have bad days, he will learn from this. But he has kept this aside, come out and batted like a champion,” Ashwin said.
