R Ashwin, the star and veteran Indian all-rounder for Rajasthan Royals, was fined 25% of his match fee after being found guilty of violating the Indian Premier League (IPL) Code of Conduct for his controversial comments regarding a decision made by the umpires during Chennai Super Kings’ match against Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2023.
After Rajasthan defeated Chennai, R Ashwin questioned vehemently why the ball was changed during the run pursuit without the bowling team’s request.
“I’m quite astonished that the umpires changed the ball to dew by themselves. It’s never occurred before, and I’m quite surprised,” Ashwin said in the press conference following the game.
R Ashwin was deemed to have violated Article 2.7, which prohibits players from overtly criticizing match officials or making inappropriate comments about any incident occurring during a match, in light of his remarks.
MS Dhoni’s valiant effort was futile as RR breached Chepauk’s fortifications.
On Wednesday, April 12, the Rajasthan Royals faced the Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Jos Buttler, the star batsman for England, continued his exceptional form when he batted first, scoring 52 runs in 36 deliveries.
Ravichandran Ashwin, Shimron Hetmyer, and Devdutt Padikkal also contributed to the visitors’ 175-run total after 20 overs with solid innings. Sandeep Sharma dismissed the in-form Ruturaj Gaikwad for just eight runs during the run chase.
However, Devon Conway saved the day for the four-time defending champions by striking a brilliant fifty under duress. After Rahane’s innings, MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja stood at the crease in the final over and attempted to score 19 runs.
Despite both batsmen’s brilliant performances, the task proved too difficult for Chennai, as Rajasthan won the game by three runs and moved to the top of the IPL standings.
