The team for Team India in the ODI World Cup 2023 has been selected. The 15 players will compete against some of the top cricket teams in the world in an effort to win the coveted trophy and end their feared ICC curse.
In the India squad, Ravichandran Ashwin was brought in when all-rounder Axar Patel was forced to withdraw due to injury before the competition. On September 29, Ashwin joined the group in Guwahati as they got ready for the World Cup exhibition games.
Former Indian cricketer Piyush Chawla discussed Ashwin’s selection to the World Cup team while speaking on the same topic. Ashwin, according to Chawla, is a like-to-like substitute for Axar, and he was praised for his prowess with both the bat and the ball.
“We all understood that Ravi Ashwin was the obvious pick due to his expertise and bowling style once Axar Patel sustained an injury and was unable to compete in the World Cup. It comes as no shock. In a video posted by ESPNcricinfo, Piyush Chawla remarked, “He can bat and is a very decent batter. It is a like-to-like replacement.
Ashwin is a cricketer with street smarts: Piyush Chawla
And Chawla called Ashwin a “street smart cricketer” and showered him with accolades. He also brought up Ashwin’s scant ODI experience over the previous two years and discussed how he might contribute against Australia in Chennai.
“Cricketer Ashwin is a street smart. He plays the game really well. He thinks about the game whether he is bowling in red-ball or white-ball cricket. He is constantly engaged in the game. Therefore, even though he hasn’t played much ODI cricket in the past two years, he is a pretty good bowler and will benefit the team, according to Chawla.
“Nobody anticipated Ashwin playing. But he will immediately enter the lineup against Australia in Chennai, a city that values spin. He has played enough cricket in Chennai to be aware of its conditions and to his advantage.
