Twitter Reactions: Radha Yadav’s heroics not enough as New Zealand level series

At Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, New Zealand defeated India by a commanding 76 runs to tie the ODI series 1-1. Radha Yadav gave it her all in the middle, whether it was with the bat, bowl or field.

The first innings saw half-centuries from veterans Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates, which ultimately proved to be the difference between the two teams. Due to a strong start by New Zealand, the Indian bowlers were unable to apply pressure early on. In order to keep them steady, senior batsmen Bates (58 off 70) and Devine (79 off 86) took charge. The White Ferns later posted 259 thanks to a 42 off 41 goal from Maddy Green.

Smriti Mandhana’s bad form continued during the match, as the left-handed batswoman claimed a duck and her opening partner Shafali Verma was dismissed for just 11. The Indian hitters had a difficult day. Harmanpreet Kaur, who is back, scored 24 runs. Similar to the T20 World Cup 2024, the Indian hitters were unable to make a substantial contribution, which led to a loss.

Especially Mandhana, who has scored four single-digit goals in the last five games, the starting tandem is struggling. With successive scores of 17, 15, and 15, Jemimah Rodrigues, Tejal Hajabnis, and Deepti Sharma were unable to leave their imprint in the middle order. India was lowered to 108/8 at one point.

To assist the hosts stay in the game, Radha played a brilliant knock of 48 runs and partnered with Saima Thakor for 70 runs. Notably, Radha claimed two amazing catches and four wickets in the opening innings.

India was unable to win the series despite her being the one-woman army due to the absence of support from those around her.
