In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated the Gujarat Titans by 11 runs in their first match. Rahul Tewatia had the misfortune of being dismissed in a unique manner during the game. Sherfane Rutherford drove the ball back to the bowler after Arshdeep Singh bowled him a yorker.
But it went straight to the bowler’s end stumps after touching Arshdeep’s fingers.
Rahul Tewatia attempted to retract the strike while out of the crease.
When he smacked a six on the second ball of his innings, the player looked fantastic with the bat. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad hosted a fantastic cricket match.
In the opening inning, PBKS scored 243 runs. They scored a large total thanks to excellent knocks from captain Shreyas Iyer (97*), Shashank Singh (44*), and Priyansh Arya (47). R. Sai Kishore held the game from one end despite GT’s poor bowling. In four overs, the bowler gave up just 30 runs while taking three wickets. Throughout the innings, he was GT’s sole economical bowler.
The team captained by Shubman Gill got off to a poor start when they batted, but they knew the score and would have reached the objective with a few wickets left. Sherfane Rutherford started his innings off strong but faltered in the middle. Arshdeep Singh, a left-arm bowler for PBKS, bowled brilliantly, keeping his line and length. Iyer took up the POTM trophy for an outstanding performance.

On 97, Shreyas Iyer shares his response to remaining undefeated.
The competition got off to a fantastic start for PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer. The player said that ‘it was the frosting on the cake’ for them, even though he didn’t catch his century. Iyer saw the victory favorably and gave the teammates credit for playing their best.
“The cherry on top for us is getting 97 not out in the season’s first game. My motivation was boosted when I hit a four on the first ball I faced. Rabada also got a flick six from it. He (Shashank) scored 44 runs from 16–17 balls, which was very important for the squad. “We set a standard that we had to meet,” Shreyas Iyer stated during the presentation held after the game.
