The much-awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is set to begin on March 22 (Saturday) with defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) set to take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. However, rain is expected to play spoilsport, which could dampen the season opener.
The showers on March 21 (Friday) forced the players to cut down their practice sessions and move indoors. However, the showers could extend to the following morning as well.
According to Accuweather.com, the weather in Kolkata will be
“Cloudy in the morning with a couple of showers, then intervals of clouds and sunshine in the afternoon,” but the chances of precipitation will drop to 25% by the evening.
The India Meteorological Department, though, has predicted thunderstorms and gusty winds in Kolkata until March 22 due to an anticyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal.
“Isolated to scattered light or moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds likely over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on March 20 and 21,” the IMD announced.
The match is scheduled to begin at 7.30, which is 30 minutes after the toss. However, Eden Gardens is also expected to host the IPL 2025 opening ceremony, which, as things stand, may hit a hurdle with rains around.
