While India won the Asia Cup 2025 for the ninth time, the controversy surrounding their trophy snub during the customary presentation ceremony is far from over. On September 30, the Asian Cricket Council’s member boards gathered to discuss the problem.
Vice President Rajeev Shukla represented India’s Board of Control for Cricket, and ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi received no compassion.
The main topic of discussion at the most recent meeting was how to hand over the trophy to the Indian team, captained by Suryakumar Yadav, who defeated Pakistan in the finals to win the competition on Sunday, September 28 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Notably, India refused to take the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, but the latter replied childishly by keeping it in his possession and fleeing to his hotel room.
According to India Today, the matter did not sit well with VP Shukla, who sent some scathing questions to the ACC chairman, who also serves as the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Shukla, who is also a diplomat with the Indian government, told Naqvi that the trophy is not his property; it belongs to the winning team, and it must be given over to the champions with due respect. The ultimate outcome is still awaited.
