Before being signed by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for INR 20 lakh prior to the previous season, Ramandeep Singh began his Indian Premier League (IPL) career with the Mumbai Indians (MI). The Kolkata-based team won the coveted trophy for the third time thanks to some pivotal cameos from the Punjab all-rounder.
In October, KKR paid INR 4 crore to retain Ramandeep ahead of the IPL 2025 big auction. The gifted cricket player later made his T20 debut for the national team in November. Ramandeep stated in a recent interview that he had received more lucrative offers from other teams, but he decided to stay with the Knights since they had provided him with a stage on which to display his skills. According to the 27-year-old, he turned down offers from other franchises totalling up to INR 10 crore.
“You shouldn’t abandon the franchise that has aided you just yet. You should never leave them. “It’s wrong if you’re leaving just to get money,” Ramandeep stated on the Raj Shamani Podcast.
Indeed, there were clubs that were prepared to pursue me and make offers as high as 10 crore. However, money was never the motivating force for me. He clarified, “KKR held my hand when I was nothing, and I wanted to give them my whole support.”
Representing India and winning the World Cup has always been my goal: Ramandeep Singh
According to Ramandeep, teams that provide their athletes with opportunity should be rewarded with loyalty. The Chandigarh native stated that his goal is to represent India and win the World Cup for his country, and making money has never been his top objective.
“Opportunities are crucial in the IPL, and you should be devoted to the team that supports you. Money isn’t really important. Money is obviously crucial, but [for me], it was never about money. Representing India and winning the World Cup for the nation has always been my dream,” Ramandeep said.
The reigning champions lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru at home to begin their IPL 2025 campaign. On Wednesday, March 26th, the Ajinkya Rahane-led team will play the Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati in an attempt to turn things around.
