On Monday, March 31, the defending champions, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), lost to the Mumbai Indians by eight wickets at the Wankhede Stadium in the IPL 2025. The main highlights for KKR as the hosts MI chased down the target of 117 were Ramandeep Singh’s explosive 22 runs off 12 balls, Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s 26 runs off 16 balls, and Andre Russell‘s double strikes.
Ramandeep Singh, an all-rounder for KKR, was candid in his appraisal of the defeat during the press conference held after the game. “No matter the circumstances, any team can fail,” he stated. That clearly provides an opening for the lower order, but tonight we were unlucky. Going forward in the competition, we will make every effort to avoid encountering a similar circumstance.
He also discussed how to support the team’s aggressive batting strategy while highlighting the lessons they may draw from this performance.
“We encourage each member of the team to follow their intuition. Even though things don’t always go as planned, we must support our players so they can give it their all and follow their attacking instincts.
“We recognise the importance of partnerships, but we would give Angkrish and Rinku credit for their performance if their attacking strategy had been successful. It’s not always your day. Every game has lessons to teach us,” Ramandeep continued.
Ramandeep Singh believed that the toss had a major influence on the result after considering the circumstances at the Wankhede Stadium.
For MI, it was an excellent toss to win. Even in the second innings, the new ball was seaming and the spinners were getting some turn, so they did have an advantage. Therefore, there was something for the bowlers to enjoy. But it isn’t an acceptable justification. We must be prepared for any eventuality. You have to become comfortable with the wicket today before trying to hit sixes. That isn’t usually the case, but today was a little different,” he said.
When the Kolkata Knight Riders play the Sunrisers Hyderabad at Eden Gardens on April 3, they will be motivated to recover.
