The SA20 2025 is set to start on January 9. MI Cape Town announced leggie Rashid Khan as the tournament’s captain for the third edition just before the season officially began.
Notably, the Sunrisers Eastern Cape, led by South African ace batsman Aiden Markram, won the previous two tournaments. But even with the major talents, MI Cape Town didn’t have much of an influence throughout the first two seasons.
Despite having a team full of big-name players, MI Cape Town has finished last in the table the past two seasons. Kieron Pollard captained the team the previous season, but Rashid Khan will be leading the team again this time around and will be looking to make up for missing the previous campaign because of a back ailment.
Rashid was one of the missing components in MI Cape Town’s bowling lineup, which was frequently losing runs during the previous season, so this is encouraging for the team. Rashid is one of the game’s major match-winners, despite having a rough ride as captain of the team during the first season.
Rashid Khan’s incredible T20 numbers and accomplishments as Afghanistan’s captain
In the 2024 season, Rashid Khan has had a prosperous run in T20 cricket. He has appeared in 41 games, scoring 473 runs at a strike rate of 153.57 and taking 66 wickets at an average of 15.51.
In addition, he has had a great run as Afghanistan’s T20I captain, leading the side to their first-ever T20 World Cup semifinal and ranking among his team’s top wicket-takers with 14 from the eight games he participated in.
