India’s unfair edge over the other players due to playing all of their games in Dubai was one of the main points of contention during the Champions Trophy 2025. Pakistan received the most of this criticism because they had to share hosting of the games because India refused to send a delegation to the bordering country for the coveted competition.
But other English specialists, including Nasser Hussain, David Lloyd, and Michael Atherton, also came forward to harshly criticise the BCCI and the ICC for incompetently organising the eight-team tournament’s 2025 games. Former Pakistani cricket player Rashid Latif responded to their remarks by defending the organisers and calling the English criticism unfair.
“If India is mentioned as having an advantage by us (Pakistan), you understand. Now, though, why are former England cricket players complaining about it?
On his YouTube channel, Rashid Latif stated, “They are attempting to involve themselves excessively in other people’s affairs.”
“Yes, the scheduling issue existed. In Dubai, India played New Zealand on Sunday, March 2. A day earlier, on March 1st, when England faced South Africa in Karachi, India would have comfortably decided the semifinal lineup. It was an error on the part of the ICC and all parties involved. You were only supposed to verify the timetable, and you failed to notice the error. You are complaining after agreeing and now your team is out. Each and every cricket board delegate bears responsibility. You should not attend the ICC meeting in order to enjoy yourself. Take care of your work well,” he added.
The only side to finish the tournament with no points was England, who lost all three of their Group B matches against South Africa, Australia, and Afghanistan. The Three Lions were also the first side eliminated from the competition, and after the disastrous outcome, captain Jos Buttler made the decision to resign.
