Regarding Chennai Super Kings’ plan to hand over the captaincy before the Indian Premier League 2024 season begins, former India head coach Ravi Shastri has voiced his thoughts. According to Shastri, the decision to make this move was based on MS Dhoni’s health and the team’s insistence that he participate in the lucrative tournament’s current season.
At Vizag’s Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Stadium on Sunday, CSK and Delhi Caps will play their third group stage match. In the current tournament, the reigning champions are undefeated and will look to keep up their winning momentum as they take on the DC team. Ravi Shastri further said that Dhoni would defer to the opening batsman and get in only when required.
“Yes, without a doubt, this is MS Dhoni’s final season. It’s all dependent on how his body handles everything, so only time will tell if he plays the entire season or not. According to Ravi Shastri, whom News18 cited, he has stated, “I don’t want to give the job to Ruturaj halfway through the tournament.”

“I think as compared to the year when Jadeja was captain, MS will take more and more of the backseat and probably contribute just in a little way between the drinks break or something like that. Be in the hot seat from the outside; I’m watching from the back, and if Ruturaj needs some help, I’m there to help him out,” he continued.
CSK wants to keep their vintage charm under their new leader.
The great Dhoni surprised everyone by stepping down as captain and giving the batsmanship to top-order batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad to launch the Super Kings into the 2019 season. This was the second time the team’s leadership has undergone major changes at the franchise.
The squad has defeated teams like the Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru since Gaikwad was named captain, in contrast to the earlier occurrence in 2022 when Ravindra Jadeja was named captain. With the greatest net run rate of +1.979, CSK is currently atop the chart.
