Ravindra Jadeja, a great all-rounder for Team India, has been an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings organization for the past ten years. In advance of the highly anticipated next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Jadeja highlighted the significance of the name “Mahendra” in his cricket career.
The all-rounder offered a number of insightful comments about his cricket career while appearing on Star Sports’ “Stars on Star” program. The CSK southpaw named his coach and the team’s current captain as the two “Mahendras” who shaped his cricket career.
“I explained to Mahi (MS Dhoni) bhai that Mahendra Singh Chauhan, my coach at Jamnagar, and Mahendra Singh Dhoni, my captain at CSK, were the two key figures in my cricket career. My cricket career has actually been divided between these two Mahendras, Jadeja said in a Star Sports episode.
As Chennai takes on the reigning champion Gujarat Titans in the opening game of the 16th IPL on Friday, March 31, Ravindra Jadeja and Dhoni are expected to team up once more.
Ravindra Jadeja Jadeja revealed on the preview show that he once loved playing fast bowler, making for another intriguing comment. The renowned all-rounder did, however, add that he lacked the necessary “speed” to perform the duties of a fast bowler.
“Back when I first started playing cricket, I loved being a quick bowler. It used to be so much fun to watch other fast bowlers bowl bouncers. Even I used to imagine that I would bowl bouncers to batters while watching them, but I lacked the speed to be a fast bowler,” continued Jadeja.
Interestingly, the southpaw has 114 wickets in 143 innings, which ranks third among CSK’s bowlers and includes three four-wicket hauls and one five-for. The flashy all-rounder has also scored 1596 runs overall in 112 innings while wearing the yellow uniform. CSK will be striving to regain their former glory, especially in light of the disappointing season they had in the previous edition.
