On Saturday, May 3, Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Chennai Super Kings by two runs in Match 52 of the current Indian Premier League at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. This was RCB’s fourth straight victory. The hosts ascended to the top of the standings with this.
First to bat was the RCB. They reached 71 inside the powerplay thanks to the efforts of Virat Kohli and Jacob Bethell. After reaching his first IPL half-century, Bethell was dismissed for 55 off 33 deliveries. Soon after, Kohli recorded a fluid 62 off 33 balls.
The RCB’s momentum was significantly slowed down in the middle overs. Jitesh Sharma (seven off eight), Rajat Patidar (11 off 15), and Devdutt Padikkal (17 off 15) all fell cheaply. But RCB reached a 213-run total thanks to a 33-run over from Khaleel Ahmed and a 21-run final over. Off 14 balls, Romario Shepherd hit an undefeated 53. In doing so, he tied for the second-fastest fifty in IPL history.
Ayush Mhatre had an amazing appearance from the beginning. He became the third-youngest player to reach a half-century in the IPL after hitting 26 off of Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s second over. After 1,463 days away from the IPL, Lungi Ngidi scored in his opening over. At 106/2, CSK was cruising at the halfway point.
With Mhatre and Ravindra Jadeja leading the way, CSK appeared to be in control as they needed 43 off the final 24 balls. On the following delivery, Ngidi struck again to dismiss Dewald Brevis for a golden duck after Mhatre missed his first IPL century by six runs (94 off 48). For the second consecutive year against the same opposition at the same location, Yash Dayal maintained composure with 15 needed off the final over.
Key Moments from RCB vs CSK, Match 52 of IPL 2025
1. Brevis dazzles with moments of brilliance on the field
The dismissals of Bethell and Jitesh involved Brevis being involved. The top-order batter was caught brilliantly by the South African, who charged from the deep backward square leg fence to take it inches from the ground. Jitesh’s dismissal was a smart relay catch involving Brevis in the deep midwicket area.
