On May 23, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by 42 runs at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow in a thrilling IPL 2025 match. The defeat has jeopardised RCB’s prospects for a top-two finish, with their fate now dependent on their last league encounter and the results of the Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans.
After being put into bat, SRH put on a show, scoring a huge 231/6 in 20 overs. Abhishek Sharma got off to a flying start, slamming 34 off 17 balls, while Ishan Kishan smashed an undefeated 94 off 48 deliveries, including five sixes and seven boundaries.
SRH captain Pat Cummins added the final touches with a quick unbeaten 13, pushing the score above 230 as RCB bowlers were hammered. Romario Shepherd was the only one who made an impact, capturing two wickets for 14 runs in his two overs.
In response, RCB started brightly with Phil Salt’s explosive 62 off 32 and Virat Kohli’s aggressive 43. However, after Salt fell with RCB at 129 for 3, the middle and lower order disintegrated under strain, as the team collapsed from 173 for 3 to 189 all out in 19.5 overs.
Cummins also led from the front with the ball, taking three wickets for 28 runs. Eshan Malinga was the standout bowler, finishing with two for 37 and ensuring RCB never recovered from their middle-order collapse by dismissing Tim David and Romario Shepherd in quick succession.
SRH will play their last league encounter against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on May 25, while RCB will face the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on May 27.
Here are the milestones achieved during RCB vs SRH, Match 65 of IPL 2025:
-
Tim David: Played his 50th IPL match.
- Abhishek Sharma: Completed 4000 T20 runs.
