Virat Kohli is without a doubt one of the greatest batsmen of the contemporary age, and his year-long contributions to international cricket demonstrate his skill.
Following an incredible century in the opening Test match in Perth, the remainder of the series was relatively forgettable for the Indian batsman, who was a member of the team that travelled to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25. In addition to his 100* in the match in Perth, Virat Kohli was heavily criticized for scoring an additional 90 runs in the final four Test matches. Some fans and experts even advocated for the cricketer to stop playing the game.
The Delhi native recently revealed, however, how the tour felt for Kohli as a batter and how, in spite of his best efforts to get past his batting difficulties, he came to terms with his defeat. Speaking on Saturday, March 15 at the RCB Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit, Kohli said the series in Australia has been one of the most disappointing in terms of intensity. He even likened it to the 2014 tour of England, during which he experienced a similar difficult period.
The most recent trip of Australia would be the most current if you were to gauge my level of disappointment. Thus, it may seem the most intense to me. The 2014 England tour was my biggest source of annoyance for a while. That’s not how I can see it, though. It could be four years before I do another trip to Australia. I’m not clear. Whatever has occurred in your life, you must accept it. I was still able to go in 2014 and do what I did in 2018. Perhaps it wasn’t. It may have been another mistake. However, things didn’t work out that way,” he remarked.
Simply accepting that “okay, fine, this is what happened”: Virat Kohli
The 36-year-old only continued to strive because he felt confidence following a strong knock in the series opener, according to the man himself. He was also forthright enough to acknowledge that the trip down under didn’t go as planned, but he still wants to make amends for his own troubles.
“Because I did well on the first test.” Yes, I thought, “Let’s go.” Another major series is coming up for me. That was not the case. To me, it simply comes down to accepting that this is what happened. ‘Where do I want to go?’ I’ll be honest with myself. How energetic am I? A choice to “let me go” won’t be made by me sitting here in 48 or 72 hours. Get in touch with your family. Get a seat. Calm down, please. And observe my feelings in a few days,” Kohli continued.
The best batter will next be seen playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League. As the team’s top batter, Kohli would be looking to change the course of the team’s history and assist them in winning their eagerly anticipated league debut trophy.
