Nepali spinner Sandeep Lamichhane is set to miss the ODI World Cup Global Qualifier because of the rape case hearing in the District Court.
Sandeep Lamichhane was let out of jail in January after paying the Rs.2 million bail set by the Patan High Court. He was accused of raping a child.
The latest news is that the Kathmandu District Court has told the girl’s age to be checked again. Reports also say that the spinner may lose his spot on the national team and may not play in the Global Qualifiers.
Nepal is one of the countries that could qualify for the World Cup Global Qualifier, which will take place from June 18 to July 9. The cricket board of Nepal hasn’t said anything public about the matter and his inclusion in the team yet, so we don’t know what will happen.
Nepal’s past is written in the script for the 2023 Asia Cup.
Nepal’s qualifying for the Asia Cup 2023 was one of the best things to happen to the country this year. On May 2, the national team, under Rohit Paudel‘s leadership, defeated the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by seven wickets in the Asia Cup Qualifiers, securing their place in the significant ACC game.
By doing this, the national team made sure they would be in the tournament. They will be in Group A with rival teams like India and Pakistan. Also, Nepal, the UAE, and Oman all finished in the top three at the Premier Cup. This pretty much guarantees that they will play in the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup in July.
Nepal will also play against ‘A’ teams with five full members from the area. Due to continued tensions between the PCB and the BCCI, the ACC has not yet announced the Asia Cup 2023 schedule or the final location of the event.
