In the fifth IPL 2025 match between Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, March 25, Glenn Maxwell’s comeback to the Punjab Kings proved to be a dismal affair as the batter claimed a golden duck. Remarkably, Maxwell walked back after speaking with the non-striker, only to discover via ball tracking that the ball was crossing the stumps.
In his second over, Gujarat Titans left-arm spinner Sai Kishore was in the thick of things, and Glenn Maxwell was the second batsman to fall in the over.
His dual blows temporarily stopped PBKS’s progress. Arshad Khan caught Azmatullah Omarzaifor in the deep after Kishore dismissed him at 16 (15) on the third delivery of his second over. The subsequent delivery had a somewhat flatter trajectory. Maxwell attempted the reverse-sweep first delivery, but the Australian all-rounder completely missed it.
In real time, the ball’s trajectory appeared plumb, and the umpire raised his finger without hesitation. But Maxwell would still be alive if he had contested the ruling. In the dugout, Punjab Kings head coach Ricky Ponting was devastated by the error.

After Maxwell left, Marcus Stoinis entered the batting order. managed the hattrick delivery safely. Even yet, Stoinis was dismissed by Kishore in his last over. It’s interesting to note that Stoinis fell while attempting to reverse-sweep. But he could only direct it directly to the short third man.
Punjab Kings record a massive 243
Kishore finished with a respectable four-over quota of 3/30. But all the other bowlers turned out to be costly. Only Kagiso Rabada and Rashid Khan were among the wickets taken by Punjab Kings, who finished their innings with 243/5 after 20 overs, aside from Kishore.
With an outstanding undefeated 97 off 42 deliveries, five fours, and nine sixes, captain Shreyas Iyer led the way from the front in his maiden game for the team. Shashank Singh took matters into his own hands at the other end in the last over, scoring 23 off Mohammed Siraj to stay undefeated on 44 off 16, leaving him stranded.
