In the 45th IPL 2025 match against the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium, Rishabh Pant got out on his second ball. The captain of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) failed once more when he attempted to reverse sweep Will Jacks’ delivery over the top of the third man, who was unharmed, but instead gave Karn Sharma a catch inside the circle.
When LSG’s finest batter, Nicholas Pooran, was out for 27 (15), Pant came into the middle. The southpaw attempted to make amends by playing a solid knock after a run of subpar outings. Pant’s outside half created an edge on the opening ball against Jacks, and the ball travelled for a boundary.
In order to get a boundary on the next delivery, the LSG hitter next attempted to reverse sweep the ball over the infield. Sadly for him, there was insufficient height and the ball was fuller. The ball therefore went directly to Karn, who made no mistakes.
Rishabh Pant’s consistency this IPL is truly inspirational — no matter who bowls, part-timer or prime spinner, he never fails to flop. Scored just 4 runs today, and an exit so fast even the broadcasters missed it.

Rishabh Pant continues to play poorly in the IPL 2025.
For the most costly player in IPL history, it was yet another setback. More significantly, he was criticised harshly on social media by fans and critics for his decision to exit by playing a reverse sweep, the same shot that hasn’t helped him succeed enough recently.
In the ongoing season, Pant’s best knock was against CSK, where he scored 63(49). Against DC, his former team, the star batter registered ducks in both matches. Against PBKS, the southpaw registered a 6-ball 2 and a 5-ball 2, respectively.
Against SRH, the wicketkeeper-batter scored 15(15), his only double-digit score apart from his 63 against CSK and 21(18) against MI in Lucknow. Against RR, the star batter scored 3(9) and got out while attempting to play a reverse sweep. Pant’s reckless shot, along with his poor form, is being questioned after yet another forgettable outing.
