Rishabh Pant broke a global record during his 58-ball 65-run cameo on Day 4 of the ongoing five-match series between England and India, establishing himself as the leader of a list that had previously included Ben Stokes.
With the first of his three maximums from Josh Tongue, he surpassed Stokes’ record of 21 in South Africa to become the hitter with the most sixes in Tests away from home. When Pant returned to the changing room, his total had risen to 24. Sir Vivian Richards has the next-best record for a visiting batter in England, with 16.
Most sixes in Tests in a country away from home:
| Player | Country | Matches | Innings | Runs | Strike Rate | Sixes |
| Rishabh Pant | England | 11 | 21 | 898 | 71.49 | 24 |
| Ben Stokes | South Africa | 8 | 14 | 729 | 85.76 | 21 |
Rishabh Pant, who scored only 25 the first innings, made sure he was amongst the runs in the second essay.
He was eventually dismissed by Shoaib Bashir for the second time in the game while attempting a ferocious swing. However, Pant mishit the ball to Ben Duckett on the long-off fence to provide Bashir with his first wicket in the second innings.
India’s lead has gone past 450, and it will be interesting to see when they declare to have a go at the hosts with the ball. The Shubman Gill-led unit will be keen on drawing level after losing by five wickets in the series opener at Headingley. The third match of the series is scheduled to get underway on Thursday, July 10, at Lord’s. The final two encounters of the series will be played at Old Trafford in Manchester (from July 23) and the Oval in London (from July 31).
