Former English cricketer Jonathan Trott believes Rishabh Pant’s cameo derailed England’s momentum after a strong start on Day 4 of the second Test in the ongoing five-match series between England and India. Pant’s 58-ball 65-run knock included eight fours and three sixes.
He also mentioned how Rishabh Pant counterattacking punch added to the spice of Test cricket, and that the game was about to get incredibly intriguing on the last day.
“England took two wickets early on, and you’d assume they had the advantage. But Pant’s appearance snatched the momentum away. With him, you know there’s more to come. He simply comes out, uses his feet, starts the game from ball one, and does not let the bowlers settle. That is the beauty of Test cricket, and we have a full house at Edgbaston on Day 4. This match is entering Day 5, and we’ve had nine days of very great Test cricket. “Test cricket is alive and well,” Trott told JioHotstar.
India would gladly take that session: Varun Aaron
Speaking of the first session of the day, former Indian cricketer, Varun Aaron, remarked that the visitors were the winners of the opening session. He also credited Josh Tongue and Brydon Carse for the way they bowled and felt that a team like England can never be counted out.
“India would gladly take that session — they lost only two wickets but scored at a very brisk rate. Rishabh Pant’s blitz really elevated the innings to a different level. KL Rahul was watchful, Karun Nair fell playing the drive — but credit must go to Josh Tongue and Brydon Carse, who bowled well in helpful conditions. This is the kind of bowling England should’ve brought in the first innings, but it’s never too late. They still need to keep pushing if they want a chance in this Test. That said, with a team like England, you can never rule them out,” mentioned Aaron.
India went into Tea with the score at 304/4 in 68 overs. Gill went into the break unbeaten on 100 off 130 deliveries. Accompanying him was Ravindra Jadeja at the other end with a cautious 25 off 68. The visitors would be aiming to get some quick runs before declaring prior to the end of day’s play.
