At the ACA-VDCA Stadium on Monday, March 24, during Match 4 of the 2025 Indian Premier League between the Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants, Rishabh Pant left the field for a six-ball duck. The bowler at the other end was Kuldeep Yadav, a teammate from India.
Faf du Plessis pouched a regulation opportunity as Pant holed out to long-off. Kuldeep threw up the ball way outside the off-stump, causing the attempted huge shot. Coming off the bottom end of the bat, Pant’s effort to hit the ball was unsuccessful.
Pant played 111 matches for DC over the course of eight exhausting seasons before being purchased by LSG at the mega auction in Jeddah in November 2024 for a record INR 27 crore. Although the LSG captain would have preferred a stronger performance, his personal campaign got off to a fairly bleak start. In the IPL, this was his fifth time being sent out for a duck.
Marsh and Pooran’s rapidfire 70s lead LSG to 209
Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran’s scorching 70s earlier in the evening set the stage for LSG’s aggressive strokeplay, which completely destroyed the DC team. In their team’s innings, the two hit a combined dozen fours and thirteen sixes.
At 27 off 19 deliveries, David Miller was still undefeated. But from the perspective of the rest of the side, there wasn’t much to see. Shahbaz Ahmed, Shardul Thakur, and Ayush Badoni combined for just 13 runs off of 15 deliveries as DC concluded their innings with a score of 209/8.
