Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant has been fined INR 30 million for his third slow overrate infraction this season. The event occurred during Tuesday’s 70th IPL 2025 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, in which RCB won by six wickets to secure a Qualifier 1 berth for the first time since 2016.
Rishabh Pant, who had already been fined on April 5 and April 26, received a heavy sum for his third violation.
The remaining XII players were each fined INR 12 lakh or 50% of their match fee, whichever was lesser. Fortunately for Pant, the IPL 2025 rule change protected him from suspension, as the previous guideline stated that a third transgression resulted in a one-match ban.
Meanwhile, it was Pant’s show until the first innings, when the LSG captain blasted an unbeaten 118 off only 61 balls, including 11 fours and eight sixes. He shared a mammoth 152-run stand with Mitchell Marsh (67 off 37), leading the hosts to a solid total of 227/3 in their allotted 20 overs.
As he faced Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Suyash Sharma, and Romario Shepherd, the Southpaw appeared to be in good form. He reached his fifty in 29 balls and increased the run-rate even more in the last overs. The RCB hitters appeared cool and collected in spite of the pressure of pursuing a large goal. Virat Kohli and Phil Salt, the openers, got off to a fast start, raising the team’s total to 61 in just 5.4 overs.
Kohli scored 54 off 30 balls after Salt was out for 30. The second half of the day, however, went in favour of Jitesh Sharma, the stand-in captain for the RCB, who hit his first IPL fifty, which included eight fours and six sixes, with an undefeated 85 off just 33 balls. With Mayank Agarwal (41* off 23) holding one end and Jitesh’s measured aggression, they formed an unbroken 107-run stand that gave them a six-wicket victory with eight balls remaining.
