At the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Friday, April 4, during Match 16 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 versus the Mumbai Indians, captain Rishabh Pant of the Lucknow Super Giants was fined for his team’s slow over-rate.
Rishabh Pant was fined INR 12 lakh because this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate offences.
Digvesh Rathi, the spinner for LSG, was found guilty of violating the IPL Code of Conduct and was fined 50% of his match money. In addition to the one Demerit Point he earned during LSG’s game versus Punjab Kings on April 1, 2025, he has now accrued two Demerit Points for this season’s second Level 1 infraction under Article 2.5. The Match Referee’s ruling is definitive and enforceable for Level 1 violations of the Code of Conduct.
The visitors were stopped 12 runs short of the 204-run goal by the energetic bowling of the Lucknow Super Giants, who went back to winning ways. On a black-soil track, openers Mitchell Marsh (60 off 31) and Aiden Markram (53 off 38) set the stage for a 200-plus total. Ayush Badoni and David Miller benefited on the explosive start while Nicholas Pooran and Pant were unable to get going.
Miller’s (14-ball 27) and Badoni’s (19-ball 30) swift cameos made sure that the openers’ early momentum was not lost. Avesh Khan, Akash Deep, Digvesh, and Shardul Thakur all returned with wickets each while bowling, and Digvesh won Player of the Match for his economical 1 for 21 in four overs.
On April 8, LSG will take a plane to Kolkata to play the Kolkata Knight Riders, while on April 7, the Mumbai Indians will host the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
