In the fourth Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match, the Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to win their opening game of the season. LSG may have believed the game was theirs with six runs to win and one wicket left in DC’s final over. But it was Ashutosh Sharma’s day, as he smashed the game-winning six and produced an undefeated half-century in what ended up being DC’s most successful run-chase in IPL history.
Kuldeep Yadav stepped out to bat during a humorous occasion that occurred in between the second innings. Kuldeep missed a back-of-length delivery from Ravi Bishnoi in the second ball of the 18th over. LSG captain and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant attempted to strike the stumps with the ball, but Kuldeep lost his footing just in time, but he was still able to stay grounded inside the popping crease. In a mocking attempt at stumping dismissal, Pant shoved him off the crease and disassembled the stumps. On social media, the moment’s video became viral.
Rishabh Pant, the captain of LSG and the most expensive IPL acquisition, did not play well with the bat or the gloves.
He failed to stump Mohit Sharma with the opening delivery of the 20th over, which might have ended the match. LSG lost the game because of the captain’s careless error behind the stumps.
The audience was riveted to their seats until the very last over of this thrilling match. Mitchell Marsh‘s (72 off 36) and Nicholas Pooran’s (75 off 30) outstanding half-centuries helped LSG score 209 runs in the first innings. At one point, they were 113/6 when DC batted. The team’s game was then shut down by the middle-order hitters.
This triumph was due to a masterful cameo from Vipraj Nigam (39 off 15), a strong performance from Tristan Stubbs (34 runs off 22), and a conscientious knock by Ashutosh Sharma (66* off 31). Though it would be a forgettable contest, Pant, who was born in Haridwar, hopes to improve in the next games.
