Rishabh Pant, India’s vice captain, was among the many well-known figures who attended the legendary Wimbledon Championships on Monday, July 7. Pant made a spectacular appearance at the All England Club in London the day after playing in the second Test of India’s ongoing series against England at Edgbaston.
Rishabh Pant, who has been one of India’s finest performers in the Test series thus far, took a break between matches to watch a tennis match at Centre Court.
Wimbledon’s official Instagram account greeted the southpaw. “Welcome to #Wimbledon, @rishabpant”
The 27-year-old has had an outstanding performance in the first two Tests, striking hundreds in both innings of the first Test and then 25 and 65 in the Edgbaston Test. Pant helped India tie the series after losing the first Test by scoring 342 runs in four innings at an average of 85.50.
Virat, Root, among other cricket personalities spotted at Wimbledon
Notably, Pant wasn’t the only cricketer spotted at Wimbledon. Former India captain Virat Kohli, accompanied by wife Anushka Sharma, was seen enjoying the Round of 16 clash between Novak Djokovic and Alex de Minaur. Kohli, who recently retired from Test cricket, posted an Instagram story lauding Djokovic. “What a match. It was business as usual for the gladiator.” Following this, the Tennis legend replied, thanking the cricketer for his support, “Thank you for supporting.”
Also present at the Centre Court were England’s Joe Root and James Anderson. Root, England’s top run-scorer in Test cricket, was seen shaking hands with Swiss legend Roger Federer, while Anderson was seated a few rows behind in the Royal Box. Legendary West Indies batter Brian Lara and other sports personalities like footballer Chris Kamara and swimmer Mark Foster were also in attendance. Wimbledon wished MS Dhoni on his 44th birthday, sharing a throwback picture of him at Centre Court.
Coming back to the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, both England and India are set to lock horns in the third Test at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, starting on 10th July.
