Rishabh Pant, who is considered to be one of the most promising batters in all of Indian cricket, was involved in a car accident on December 30 that left him with significant injuries.
As a result of the severity of the injuries, the wicket-keeper batter was required to have surgical procedures.
Due to the circumstances, he will not be able to participate in the Indian Premier League and, quite potentially, for the majority of this year. However, Ricky Ponting, the head coach of the Delhi Capitals, desires to have the wicket-keeper batter surrounding him throughout the entirety of the Twenty20 league in 2023.
Ponting acknowledged that the Delhi Capitals are looking for a replacement, but he also acknowledged that players of Rishabh Pant calibre “don’t sprout on trees.”
“It’s just not possible to find suitable replacements for those individuals. Players of that calibre don’t spring up spontaneously from the ground. A wicketkeeper who can also bat needs to be considered as a potential replacement for one of our current players, and this process has already begun “Ponting stated this while appearing on The ICC Review.
The former captain of Australia went on to declare that he would be thrilled to have Rishabh Pant in the Delhi Capitals camp even if the latter were unable to participate in the tournament due to injury.
“Even if he is not genuinely in good enough shape to participate in the game, we would still enjoy having him around. Because he is the captain of the team, he serves as a kind of cultural leader for the rest of the crew, and the fact that he has an infectious smile and laugh is one of the reasons why we all adore him so much.
If it turns out that he can actually go places and be with the team, then I want him to be in the dugout with me every single day of the week.
I will surely be making sure that, come the middle of March when we get together in Delhi and start our camps and other things, if he is able to be there, then I want him around the whole time, and I’ll be making sure of that “remarked the illustrious Australian batter.
There is currently no clear indication regarding when Rishabh Pant will come back. The possibility of witnessing the cricketer compete for India in this year’s tournament is still very remote.
