It was up to Rishabh Pant to lead the chase in the second Test match between India and New Zealand at the MCA Stadium in Pune after a well-set Yashasvi Jaiswal was lured into a forward-defensive nudge that resulted in his departure after hitting a perfect 77 (65). The wicketkeeper-batter was unfortunately dismissed for a three-ball duck, though, after a disastrous call that came with a high degree of risk in the very next over of Pant appearing in the middle.
Apparently taking a start, Virat Kohli rushed to the non-striker’s end and tapped the second delivery of the 23rd over of the run-chase to the left of backward point. Pant’s call was meant to be made since the ball went behind square. The southpaw, however, did not initially fully commit to the single and did not prevent Kohli from pursuing it.
Pant made a desperate dive, but of course he was caught short of his ground. The ball was quickly picked up and released by Mitchell Santner, the show’s star until that dismissal, as Tom Blundell whipped off the bails in a flash.

India further declines as Santner defeats Kohli.
After Pant was run out, Santner claimed his 11th wicket of the game when Kohli fell to him after a calm 18 deliveries. Kohli’s rear pad was struck by a ball that beat his inside edge after a quick delivery off the surface. Both the bowler and the close-in fielders made a fierce protest, and the umpire didn’t think twice about raising his finger.
Kohli went upstairs with him right away, as if he was certain he was going nowhere. The ball-tracking technology, however, showed an entirely different image. Kohli was annoyed when the ball was declared out on the grounds of “umpire’s call”

because it had obviously missed the bat and was striking a section of the leg pole. Washington Sundar and Sarfaraz Khan also left soon after Kohli was removed from the game.
