On Sunday, March 9, during the Champions Trophy 2025 final match versus New Zealand, Indian captain Rohit Sharma was seen expressing his annoyance after Rachin Ravindra hit the game’s first maximum. The toss had gone to New Zealand, who had started well with the bat.
The left-handed Rachin skilfully and gracefully hammered a back-of-a-length delivery from Hardik Pandya at 134 kph over the cow corner boundary, which prompted Rohit’s response. The Kiwi opener, standing tall, smashed the ball over the ropes without hesitation, and the Indian captain was not amused by his viral reaction.

Interestingly, Mitchell Santner had no qualms about batting first, and Rohit lost the toss for the 12th time in a row in ODIs. India lost the toss in the 50-over format for the fifteenth consecutive occasion. Although India did not alter their starting lineup, New Zealand was had to substitute Nathan Smith for Matt Henry. During the Kiwis’ victory against South Africa in the semi-finals, the right-arm quick had an ungainly landing on his right shoulder.
Rachin Ravindra is castled by Kuldeep to stop the flow of the run.
Rachin’s innings began in a way that suggested a high score was imminent. Rachin’s time at the crease was cut short, though, by a peach of a googly from Kuldeep Yadav. The unconventional spinner hit with his first delivery in the final, making the southpaw the second wicket to go.
Will Young was out of the game after Varun Chakravarthy’s second over. Young played all over the wicket ball as it drifted in his direction, getting stuck plumb in front of it. It would then destroy the centre and leg stump, according to the TV replay. In the period following the first powerplay, the Indian spinners would try to put pressure on the Kiwi middle-order.
