Sitanshu Kotak, the batting coach for India, has denied reports that there was a misunderstanding between the team’s management and veteran players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. He has emphasised that there is open and frequent communication with both players.
After Rohit and Kohli retired from Test cricket and Shubman Gill took over as India’s ODI captain, rumours of a falling out started to circulate. In order to address reported communication gaps between senior players and the selectors, reports have also urged that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) hold a meeting during the South Africa series. Kotak, however, emphasised that the top players and team management are completely in agreement and reiterated that there is no disagreement.
They talk with Gautam (Gambhir) about the ODI forms, our upcoming matches, and our preparations to travel to South Africa for the 2027 World Cup. If you’re listening, I’m usually there. I always see them conversing, and they undoubtedly share the experience. The Indian Express cited Kotak as saying, “Obviously, you see a lot of things in social media that I try to avoid seeing.”
“They are meticulous experts. Therefore, they don’t need to be telling people that they must do this or that, in my opinion. Because of their experience, they can actually discuss and exchange a lot of ideas with other players,” he continued.
According to Kotak, Rohit and Kohli have spoken with head coach Gambhir about their future plans.
The selection committee is likewise delaying making any choices, and the club management has decided not to publicly comment on the future of the pair.
Both players have been in outstanding form despite the uncertainty surrounding their long-term roles. Since the South Africa series, Kohli has scored three scores of fifty or more and two hundreds. In contrast, Rohit has scored three half-centuries and a century since the Australia series, demonstrating his exceptional form.
They both have a great deal of experience and seniority. Without a doubt, they plan. They wish to use every location for practice. They will leave a few days early if they feel compelled to. Because they had both been such exceptional players for India, they practise. They are excellent at planning and everything. They are aware of what must be done. They are aware of their body’s needs, including those related to fitness and batting,” Kotak remarked.
