Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian cricket team, has expressed his delight at having completed 12 years of service with the Mumbai Indians franchise of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He described the journey as “exciting and emotional” and added that he is looking forward to “creating many more memories and spreading more smiles.”
During the Indian Premier League auction that took place on January 8, 2011, Mumbai Indians purchased Rohit Sharma from Deccan Chargers. At the time, Rohit Sharma was only 23 years old.
“It is impossible for me to imagine that it has already been 12 years at Mumbai Indians. My path has been one filled with a lot of highs and lows, excitement and emotion. Together, our veteran members, our younger members, and Paltan have helped us accomplish a great deal.
The Mumbai Indians is like a family to me, and I want to express my gratitude to all of my teammates, the fans, and the management for their support.
We are looking forward to making many more memories for our Paltan and bringing many more smiles to their faces “said Rohit in a statement that was distributed by the company.
Rohit Sharma has played 182 matches and averaged 26.75 runs per game while playing for the Mumbai Indians. He has scored 4,709 runs.
He has contributed 109 runs to the team total, including one hundred and 32 half-centuries, with his best individual performance being 109*.
According to the statistics, the 2016 season was his most productive year at the plate. During that season, he was responsible for 489 runs scored while averaging 44.45. During that particular iteration of the competition, he had a best individual score of 85* and scored a total of five half-centuries.
Back in 2013, Rohit was given the opportunity to lead the franchise as its captain. Since that time, he has led the Mumbai Indians to victory in two editions of the Champions League T20 (2011) and five editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020). Over the course of his career, he has garnered praise for his abilities as a leader and a tactician, qualities that helped him ascend to the position of all-format captain for India.
On the other hand, Rohit and the Mumbai Indians did not have a particularly successful prior season in the Indian Premier League.
He played a total of 14 matches and concluded with 268 runs, averaging 19.14 and finishing with a strike rate of 120.18, which was below average. During the previous campaign, he did not manage to score even a single fifty.
The five-time defending champions finished in last place in the Indian Premier League 2022. They won only four of their 14 games, giving them a total of only eight points for the tournament.
However, with a roster that includes international cricket heavyweights such as Rohit himself, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Jofra Archer, as well as intriguing new talent like as Ishan Kishan, Tristan Stubbs, Tim David, and Cameron Green, the side will be seeking to bounce back in IPL 2023.
