After LSG defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by 12 runs in a fierce match at the BRSABV Ekana Stadium on Friday, April 4, Mumbai Indians (MI) batsman Rohit Sharma had a playful moment with LSG owner Sanjeev Goenka.
MI chose to bowl first after winning the toss. With Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh reaching his half-century in just 27 deliveries with a blistering 60 off just 31 balls before being removed in the 7th over, LSG got off to a fast start. South African Aiden Markram, his opening partner, put up 53 runs off 38 balls in a solid innings. The pair established a solid basis for the group.
LSG scored an impressive 203 runs in the second half of the innings thanks to contributions from Ayush Badoni and David Miller.
With Naman Dhir getting a strong 46 and Suryakumar Yadav sustaining hopes with a fluid 67 off 43 balls, MI demonstrated tenacity in chasing a massive mark. After a fantastic five-wicket haul earlier, captain Hardik Pandya attempted to lead the pursuit but was unsuccessful in the last overs. Digvesh Rathi had an outstanding performance among LSG’s bowlers, giving up just 21 runs in his four overs while taking a vital wicket at an amazing economy rate of 5.2.
Following the game, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka was spotted making jokes with Rohit Sharma, who was out due to a knee injury.
Rohit smiled broadly and made a joke about Shardul Thakur, saying, “Sir, why worry when you have Lord?”

Known fondly by fans as “Lord Shardul” for his knack of delivering in crucial moments, Thakur had bowled a decent spell in the match, finishing with figures of 4 overs, 40 runs, and the key wicket of Ryan. Shardul also bowled a tight penultimate over, conceding only seven runs when Mumbai Indians needed 29 off 12. The effort eventually proved crucual in his team;s victory as Avesh Khan successfully defended 22 off the final over.
