The IPL 2025 auction is quickly approaching, and the Mumbai Indians will be in the spotlight leading up to the big event. The team’s most important choice will be whether to keep former captain Rohit Sharma on the team.
After being brought in from the Gujarat Titans, Hardik Pandya was given the captaincy for the IPL 2024. The Mumbai Indians are reportedly not trying to keep Rohit, according to rumors that surfaced prior to the auction. Former Indian cricket player Harbhajan Singh was rather vocal about this. Speaking out, Harbhajan Singh suggested that Rohit might be in the midst of a bidding war in the major auction.
“It will be intriguing to see if he gets kept on board. It will be interesting to watch which team places the highest price for him if he enters the auction pool. That’s probably how a lot of teams are thinking, too,” Harbhajan Singh told the Times of India.
“Rohit Sharma is an outstanding player and leader.
He is an exceptional player, leader, and captain. He’s won matches before. He’s still got plenty of cricket left in him, even at 37. Rohit will make a lot of money if he enters the auction. Observing the sale unfold will be fascinating,” he continued.
It is important to remember that since losing his position as the team’s captain in 2024, Rohit Sharma’s future with the Mumbai Indians has been in doubt. Experts have been debating whether Rohit will decide to depart or remain on the sidelines.
Aakash Chopra, a former cricket player for India, also offered his thoughts on the subject. In talking about Rohit’s future, Chopra brought up the same subject of whether he would stay or leave and made a comparison to the great MS Dhoni.
“Is he going to stay or go? That’s a serious query. In my opinion, he won’t stay. Unless your name is MS Dhoni, whoever is retained will believe he will be with you for three years.

The stories of MS Dhoni and the Chennai Super Kings are quite different, but in a video posted to his YouTube channel, Chopra stated, “I feel like Rohit Sharma might leave MI or he might leave himself.”
