Rohit Sharma, the captain of Team India, struggled to get going with the bat during his disappointing tour of Australia. Interestingly, Sharma joined the team for the second Test after missing the previous one because of parental commitments. But after Jasprit Bumrah led the team to victory in the Test match in Perth, things took a turn for the worst for both the hitman and the visitors.
Former India great Sunil Gavaskar seems dissatisfied with Rohit’s strategy and initiative when leading in the field, given how the series worked out for him as a batsman and as captain. But according to current sources, he had officially complained about Gavaskar to the BCCI, which is the highest cricket regulating body (Board of Control for Cricket in India).
Notably, in his three Test outings during the BGT 2024–25 (Border-Gavaskar Trophy), Sharma only managed to score 31 runs at a pitiful average of 6.00. Sunil Gavaskar responded by taking shots and raising doubts about Rohit’s position in the Test team. Additionally, he believed that his future in red-ball cricket was unknown and was not happy that the usual captain had chosen to forgo the Sydney Test. In addition, he wanted the Mumbai-based leader to relinquish the captaincy position so that others may take India’s lead.
According to Cricblogger, the Indian captain did not take this harsh criticism well and chose to complain about his unwanted scrutiny to the BCCI. Furthermore, Rohit Sharma claimed that a few outside circumstances prevented him from giving Team India his best effort.
“Rohit protested to the BCCI about Sunil Gavaskar because he believed that Gavaskar’s criticism of him was unnecessary. According to the insider, he felt such much pressure from all of these that he had to tell BCCI all.
In the Ranji match against Jammu & Kashmir, Rohit Sharma was unable to score for Mumbai.
For those who haven’t heard, he made this move after performing alongside Sunil Gavaskar during the 50th anniversary festivities at Wankhede Stadium. Rohit Sharma is currently back with Team Mumbai to compete in the current Ranji Trophy 2024–25 in an attempt to regain his lost batting form. He did not, however, score against Jammu & Kashmir in the most recent match, which resulted in Mumbai losing in their own stadium.
