Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, had a hilarious incident during the toss of the current Champions Trophy 2025 match between India and New Zealand. On Sunday, March 2, in the bustling metropolis of Dubai, the humorous incident occurred after Rohit lost the toss in Match 12 of the prestigious ICC competition.
Mitchell Santner was chatting with Ian Bishop, the toss presenter, while Rohit was having a lighthearted back-and-forth with Dinesh Karthik, a former Indian cricket player. With his right hand wrapped around a teammate, Karthik was pitchside and Rohit humorously mocked him. Seemingly in a cheerful mood, Rohit nearly hinted to Karthik that the latter was jinxing his chances of winning the toss.
Interestingly, this was Rohit Sharma’s tenth consecutive 50-over toss loss. In ODI cricket, he consequently became the first Indian skipper to lose ten consecutive tosses. Rohit’s unwelcome run started on November 19, 2023, the day of the World Cup final, when India defeated Australia by a margin of six wickets at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.

New Zealand fails to meet the target of 250 runs.
India’s final score at the completion of their 50-over quota was 249/9. Shreyas Iyer hit 79 runs off 98 balls to take the lead. After India was reeling on the powerplay due to a top-order collapse, Axar Patel provided him with excellent support. Hardik Pandya too scored a solid 45 runs per ball.
Amidst a flurry of spin bowling throughout the middle phase, New Zealand is persevering for the victory in the run-chase. Ultimately, the Blue Brigade defeated New Zealand by a commanding 44 runs thanks to some outstanding bowling. After this victory, Team India is now prepared to play Australia in the semifinals.
