Rohit Sharma is the “dream captain” that middle-order batsman Shashank Singh of the Punjab Kings has named. He praised Rohit for supporting his team and acknowledged his attitude as captain.
Shashank praised Rohit for his easygoing demeanor and his on-field teasing of the players, which he believes is the reason Rohit gets along well with his teammates. Shashank, who made an impression with his aggressive and strategic knocks for Punjab Kings in the 2024 Indian Premier League, also mentioned how he used to play alongside him in local cricket for Mumbai.
The 33-year-old batting all-rounder stated that his aim is to play under the guidance of the two-time ICC trophy-winning captain Rohit, even though he would be joining Shreyas Iyer, who was announced as the new captain for the Punjab-based team ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League.
According to everyone, Rohit Sharma gives his players lots of chances and backs them to the hilt.
He’s a very intelligent commander. On the pitch, he also has some amusing one-liners. On Shubhankar Mishra’s YouTube channel, Shashank stated, “If you ask me which captain I would want to play under, it would be Rohit Sharma.” “He hails from Bombay. He and I have batted together once as well. In those days, he wasn’t the captain. One of my goals is to play under his direction.

‘Accidental buy’ to hero for Punjab Kings: The inspirational tale of Shashank Singh
In questionable circumstances, Punjab Kings selected Shashank in the IPL 2024 auction after apparently bidding for him in the expedited round because they were confused and thought he was another player with the same name. The franchise subsequently clarified that the Shashank they ultimately chose was always on their target, though. He was ultimately signed for INR 20 lakhs, which was his base price.
Despite the aforementioned incidents, he went on to win 354 runs at an average of 44.25 and a strike rate of 164.65 in 14 games, making him the team’s top run scorer and one of their greatest players of the season.
Consequently, Shashank sold for INR 5.50 crore, making him one of just two players Punjab Kings kept before the 2025 auction. It’s safe to conclude that following the previous season, he has earned the franchise’s trust.
