Star Indian batsman Rohit Sharma has finally answered the question that fans have been asking for months: would he participate in the 2027 ODI World Cup. In a recent contact with a Make-A-Wish youngster, Rohit expressed his willingness to compete in the upcoming 50-over World Cup.
Rohit’s future in ODIs has become a big source of concern after retiring from T20Is following India’s 2024 World Cup victory and leaving Test cricket in May of this year. The 38-year-old said he has unfinished business with the format.

Rohit Sharma among first to hit nets upon India’s arrival in Perth
The Nagpur-born came close to lifting the ODI World Cup in 2023, when India fell short in the final against Australia despite his exceptional leadership and attacking batting at the top. Meanwhile, the ODI captaincy has now passed to Shubman Gill. Yet, both Rohit and Virat Kohli have been retained for the upcoming ODI series against Australia.
The upcoming three-match ODI series, beginning October 19 at the Optus Stadium in Perth, making Rohit’s return to international cricket after India’s Champions Trophy win earlier this year. Notably, his preparation has grabbed headlines, with reports suggesting he has shed nearly 10 kilograms during a rigorous training regimen with former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar.
Meanwhile, Rohit was among the first to hit the nets upon India’s arrival in Perth. Despite landing after multiple flight delays, he and Kohli attended the optional session on Day 1, batting for extended periods. On Day 2, Rohit worked on his timing and even engaged in fielding drills. He was also seen in detailed discussions with head coach Gambhir and captain Gill.
