On Sunday, March 9, India won the Champions Trophy 2025 final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, defeating New Zealand by four wickets.
New Zealand got off to a fast start after choosing to bat first, as Rachin Ravindra destroyed Mohammed Shami and Hardik Pandya. India’s first breakthrough came when the in-form Varun Chakaravarthy got rid of Will Young in the eighth over.
At that point, the Kiwis had already rushed to 57. After Kuldeep Yadav quickly removed Ravindra and Kane Williamson, the Kiwis fell to 75/3. Prior to the former being overtaken by Ravindra Jadeja, Tom Latham and Daryl Mitchell attempted to collaborate.
With careful play, Glenn Phillips and Mitchell combined for 57 runs off 87 balls. Nevertheless, the Kiwis lost half of their team for 165 runs in the 38th over when Chakaravarthy took out Phillips. Before Michael Bracewell played a brilliant hand down the order, Mitchell struck a calm half-century. In their 50 overs, New Zealand concluded at 251/7 after the latter scored an undefeated 53 off 40 balls. Chakaravarthy took two wickets in addition to Kuldeep.
Rohit Sharma’s blitzkrieg at the top of the order gave the Men in Blue the perfect start in response. At the top of the order, he and Shubman Gill stitched a 105-run partnership. Phillips made a superb catch to dismiss the latter for 31. As New Zealand battled back into the match, Virat Kohli was removed in the next over. India lost three wickets for 122 runs in short succession, including Rohit.
Axar Patel and Shreyas Iyer worked well together to create a vital 61-run partnership. Iyer was removed two runs short of his half-century, but Axar and KL Rahul quickly put together a 20-run partnership to keep the scoreboard ticking over. However, Axar was fired due to a careless shot.
Rahul and Hardik Pandya formed a 38-run partnership off 36 balls when Hardik joined Rahul in the middle, pushing India to the limit. Jadeja and Rahul finished the formalities after Hardik left, and India won with one over remaining. Despite taking two wickets each, Bracewell and Santner were unable to score enough runs.
