When the Mumbai Indians (MI) took on the Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match 21 of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024), opener Rohit Sharma looked like the player of the past. At the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, DC captain Rishabh Pant encouraged MI to bat first on an incredible track. Rohit seized the opportunity, taking on the DC bowlers from the outset.
In the second over against Ishant Sharma, the 36-year-old opened his innings with back-to-back boundaries and demonstrated his diverse range of strokes by hitting the ball to all parts of the park. Six fours and three sixes peppered Rohit’s innings, but his signature pull shot was the high point of the game.
With his signature pull shot on the second ball of the fourth over, the right-handed hitter made the twenty thousand young fans who had assembled to watch him play their dream come true. In the same direction, he flicked him again for a maximum on the very next delivery.

Mumbai won for the first time this year.
After an 80-run partnership for the first wicket with Ishan Kishan, Rohit was eventually removed for 49 (27). In addition to him, MI amassed a massive 234/5 in 20 overs thanks to the contributions of Ishan Kishan (42 off 23), Hardik Pandya (39 off 33), Tim David (45* off 21), and Romario Shepherd (39* off 10).

With stats of 2/35 in four overs, Axar Patel was the most impressive bowler from DC. As a result of starter David Warner (10 off 8) being cheaply removed, DC had a difficult start. Even though Prithvi Shaw (66 off 40) and Tristan Stubbs gave it their all to keep their side in the match, they were unable to reach the objective, ultimately finishing at 205/8 in the 20 overs that were given to them.
