The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has announced the team for the current Ranji Trophy 2024–25 Round 6. Mumbai and Jammu & Kashmir will play one other over four days beginning January 23 at the MCA Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy, BKC Ground, in Mumbai. India’s top batsman Ajinkya Rahane will head the 17-man team, which includes notable additions to the roster:
Opening players Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Notably, the captain of the India Test team will play for Mumbai in a domestic encounter for the tenth time. He last participated in a Ranji match in the 2015 season, against Uttar Pradesh in the league stage. Jaiswal, however, will make his debut after being called up to the national team. In the 2023 season, when Mumbai played their neighbours, Maharashtra, the southpaw played his final Ranji match.
The team also includes other international players including Shardul Thakur, Shivam Dube, and Shreyas Iyer. Meanwhile, opening batsman Prithvi Shaw, who has fallen out of favour, has once again been left out. Despite being in the team, young top-order batsman Ayush Mhatre’s participation in the starting lineup is questionable because of the presence of more well-known players. A place in the unit has also been offered to seasoned campaigner Siddhesh Lad.
Regarding the team’s wicketkeeping possibilities, Akash Anand is anticipated to be Hardik Tamore’s backup for the forthcoming match, while Tamore is the team’s main keeper-batter. The spinning responsibilities are presumably taken on by seasoned spin-bowling all-rounders like Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotian. In the meantime, Himanshu Singh, Mohit Awashti, and Shardul will manage the pace attack.
In addition, Mumbai’s team for the crucial match comprises bowling all-rounder Royston Dias, medium-fast bowler Sylvester Dsouza, and slow left-arm orthodox Karsh Kothari.
