Regarding Rohit Sharma‘s trip to Pakistan to attend the Champions Trophy 2025 captains event in Karachi next month, nothing is yet clear. The date is tentatively set for February 16 or 17. Usually, the host nation organises this event. Pakistan is the official host of the eight-team tournament, but the Champions Trophy matches will take place in both the UAE and Pakistan.
Devjit Saikia, the recently appointed secretary of the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), claims that the ICC has not issued any formal announcement about the captains tournament.
“The topic of Rohit’s trip to Pakistan has not yet been brought up. According to Saikia, it is not currently on the schedule.
It was unclear if the Indian government’s consent would be required before the BCCI would let Rohit Sharma to visit Pakistan.
The last bilateral series between India and Pakistan took place in 2012–2013. Since then, they have faced one another in the Asia Cup and in ICC competitions. At this time, India has not visited Pakistan. But during tournaments like the 2023 ODI World Cup and the 2016 T20 World Cup, the Men in Green have travelled to their neighbour.
At first, Pakistan was supposed to host the Champions Trophy alone. However, the competition was changed to a hybrid style after India refused to visit Pakistan. Dubai is where the Men in Blue will play their games.
In response to media rumours that the BCCI had rejected using the host nation’s name on their shirt, Saikia has emphasised that India will follow the dress code established by the ICC for the international tournament. For those who are unfamiliar, player jerseys at ICC events typically feature the competition’s logo along with the tournament name, host nation, and year.
“During the Champions Trophy, BCCI will abide by all ICC regulations pertaining to uniforms. We will adhere strictly to the clothing code and emblem, regardless of what the other teams decide,” Saikia stated.
Once more, India and Pakistan are grouped together. They are accompanied by Bangladesh and New Zealand. The Dubai International Cricket Stadium will host the match between the bitter rivals on February 23.
