At the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, March 9, Rohit Sharma’s explosive half-century helped India defeat New Zealand by four wickets. It was one of the best knocks in Champions Trophy final history.
Rohit came out firing against the new ball and put the New Zealand bowlers under pressure as they chased a score of 252 on a challenging wicket. He needed just 41 balls to reach his half-century. The Indian captain blasted three sixes and seven fours before being removed for 76 off 83 deliveries. In the ninth Champions Trophy, this was Rohit’s first half-century.
After India won their second straight ICC title by completing the run chase in 49 overs, Rohit was clearly overjoyed. Following the game, the 37-year-old was questioned about his plans to retire from international cricket. To the delight of the Indian fans, he gave a negative response.
With stumps in hand, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli posed for the photographers during the festivities.
The former said to Kohli, “Mereko retirement ki bol rahe the be**n ke l**de, M* k ch*t inki.” The former is not afraid to use profanity on the pitch.
After hearing Rohit Sharma one-liner, Kohli couldn’t contain his laughter and proceeded to give his long-time pal a hug and a high five.
Kohli was dismissed for one after being bowled by Michael Bracewell, but Rohit contributed significantly to the summit clash. But after Shreyas Iyer, he was India’s second-highest run scorer at the end of the tournament. The former captain of India scored 218 runs at an average of 54.50 in five innings. He scored a half-century against Australia in the semi-final and a century against Pakistan in the group stage.
