In the 35th over of the Champions Trophy 2025 final versus New Zealand, India skipper Rohit Sharma was unable to hang onto a challenging opportunity at short mid-wicket. Rachin Ravindra had been fortunate on both of the other occasions, therefore Daryl Mitchell was given a mercy because the lost catch was India’s third in the field today. The ball slid out of Rohit’s grasp despite his best efforts to dive because he was too slow to respond.
Vice-captain Shubman Gill missed another easy catch at the deep square leg region in the very next over.
Glenn Phillips received the lifeline this time. In order to generate an opportunity, Axar Patel had the Kiwi batter slog sweep a flighted delivery towards the area where Shubman Gill was positioned, nearly trapping him. But despite his best efforts, the 25-year-old was unable to pocket the ball.
As a result, the Men in Blue have squandered four opportunities thus far in the innings due to a few dropped catches in a range of just ten deliveries.

After Phillips was caught out by Varun Chakravarthy 11 balls later in the 38th over, Gill and India were relieved. After contributing 34 runs from 52 deliveries, the hitter was forced to leave the game. He and Mitchell both shared 57 runs. Phillips’ departure also meant that, with just over 12 overs left in the innings, half of the BlackCaps’ team had returned to the pavilion after scoring 165 runs.
The Kiwis will aim to add as many runs as possible in the remaining overs to extend the opposition’s goal in the final match, which will be played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, while the Men in Blue will be trying to make up for their careless fielding efforts today.
