In upcoming Champions Trophy 2025, Rohit Sharma is expected to captain the Indian squad. As captain, the 37-year-old legend will be participating in his seventh ICC event. On February 20, the Indian squad will play their opening match against Bangladesh at the event, which will take place in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.
Pakistan will host its first ICC event since the World Cup in 1996, and the home team will go into the competition as the reigning champions. Due to difficulties travelling to Pakistan, the BCCI has decided to play on a neutral ground in the United Arab Emirates. However, according to some News18 reports, Rohit Sharma will be present at the opening ceremony in Pakistan, which is organised by the PCB and will take place on February 16 or 17.
“As PCB organises a spectacular event, the Indian Team captain will travel to Pakistan to attend the Champions Trophy opening ceremony, marking the return of a major international cricket event to Pakistan after 29 years,” sources told News18.
Regarding Rohit Sharma’s performance in the most recent Champions Trophy,
the brilliant India opener finished as the tournament’s second-highest run scorer with 304 runs from five games played, including an amazing 76 average. During the event, he scored one hundred and two half-centuries. The Indian team lost to Pakistan in the finals and was eliminated.
Pakistan and India have not yet revealed their teams for the forthcoming competition. Starting on January 22, India will play England in five Twenty20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals. Meanwhile, Pakistan is getting ready for the two-match Test series against the West Indies on January 17 and the tri-series with South Africa and New Zealand that will begin on February 8.
