Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma declared their decisions to retire from Test cricket ahead of the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, which has produced a great deal of turmoil in the Indian cricket community. Former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh, who is renowned for his direct and honest views, has asked the two to revoke their retirements and return to the whites to play.
The senior players’ departure from red-ball cricket, according to Yograj, can lead to a lot of issues, particularly in the run-up to a pivotal five-match Test series against England that starts on June 20. Yograj has explained why Virat and Rohit should play Test cricket again, but he also made fun of the BCCI by citing retired players as examples, including Yuvraj Singh, his son and a former cricket player for India.
“In order to save Indian Test cricket, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli must come out of retirement. It’s time to focus on the country, the supporters, and the intense feelings individuals have for the game, not on themselves. Virat has ten or more years remaining to play cricket. “I will ensure that Rohit returns to his best level of fitness if he comes to me,” Yograj was said by The Times of India.
Players like Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, and Virender Sehwag were fired in 2011 for no apparent cause. I chastised Yuvraj for giving in to pressure when he retired. He has always been extremely fit. He went on to say that cricket players should battle for their spot on the squad rather than give in to outside influences. The BCCI should behave as a parent to its players, protecting and supporting them rather than letting politics or ego rule the decisions.
I told Yuvi to call Virat and tell him: Yograj Singh
The former India pacer further revealed in his statement that he told Yuvraj to call and warn the two players to reconsider their decision and claimed that the two will regret deciding to quit Test cricket in the future, and there might not be a chance for them to return.
“I told Yuvi to call Virat and tell him, ‘Don’t make the same mistake I did’. I’m certain they’ll (Rohit and Virat) look back and regret it a few years down the line. Because one day, the frustration will inevitably surface — but what will be the point then?” he concluded.
