Day 1 of the third India vs. England Test at Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot saw the long-awaited debut of India cricketer Sarfaraz Khan. In just 48 balls, the 26-year-old made history by being the joint second-fastest half-century by an Indian batsman on his debut in international cricket. The Mumbai-born batsman was unfortunate to be run out by Ravindra Jadeja, which prevented him from extending his innings over 62 (66).
But Sarfaraz’s father, Naushad Khan and wife, Romana Zahoor, were supporting him from the stands the entire innings, making the day special for Sarfaraz and his whole family. Notably, on August 6, 2023, Sarfaraz married Romana in Jammu and Kashmir, and he was happy to start a new chapter in his life in the valley.
Romana is said to be a BSc student and comes from the Shopian district in Kashmir. She is also Sarfaraz’s cousin’s acquaintance, and it is said that the two of them first got together when she went to see him play in a match.

After the two hit it off right away, Romana approached Sarfaraz’s family with a marriage proposal. With the blessings of both families, the pair entered into marriage with their consent. Notably, Romana was seen crying as renowned Indian wrist spinner Anil Kumble gave Sarfaraz his debut cap, and her husband dried her tears.
The father of Sarfaraz Khan kissed his son’s debut cap.
When his kid showed him the cap, his father, unable to control his emotions, felt better. Sarfaraz’s father, Naushad, gave his son a sincere kiss on his India cap and wished him luck for his debut. Following the play of the day, Sarfaraz received an unexpected video call from his brother Musheer Khan, an Indian player who had just competed in the Under-19 World Cup 2024.
When his brother top-edged a sweep shot over a short, delicate leg, Musheer acknowledged his sibling’s debut knock and even said that he had his heart in his mouth. Sarfaraz Khan will be motivated to hit the century mark if he is given the chance to bat in the second inning after losing out on the chance to do so in the first.
