IPL 2024: Match 36 features highlights from Royal Challengers Bengaluru's second innings versus KKR

For the second straight game, Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s bowlers gave up more than 200 runs. In a game that the RCB team had to win, the hitters for the Kolkata Knight Riders ran amok, scoring 222/6 from their 20 overs. After winning the toss, Faf Du Plessis changed his team three times and decided to bowl. Mohammed Siraj, Cameron Green, and Karn Sharma were on the team.

With 48 runs from just 14 balls, Phil Salt gave the home team a flying start. The RCB bowlers struck with four wickets at regular intervals, just when it appeared that KKR was winning the match. KKR’s leading scorer, Shreyas Iyer, finished with 50. Rinku Singh (24) and Andre Russell (27*) added much-needed strength. After coming into the game, Ramandeep Singh hit two fours and two sixes for 24 not out off of 9 balls, which helped KKR achieve 222 runs.

50 runs from 4.4 overs for Royal Challengers Bengaluru

Virat Kohli started off strong but was controversially caught and bowled for eighteen by Harshit Rana. The first ball of the over was then delivered to Faf Du Plessis by Varun Chakravarthy for a 7. It was up to Will Jacks to put up a few solid hits to take the lead.

Powerplay: Mandatory 74/2, Overs 0.1 to 6, and First Strategic Time-out

Will Jacks opened his arms in the final over prior to the powerplay. The visitors were in a commanding position after Mitchell Starc hit three sixes and a four. RCB needed 149 runs from 14 overs with 8 wickets remaining when the first time-out was called.

Will Jacks from 29 balls for the half-century

With his maiden IPL fifty, Will Jacks demonstrated why he is so highly regarded in the T20 format. With a four off Varun Chakravarthy in 29 balls, the knock kept RCB in the chase for a decisive victory.

Rajat Patidar, half a century, from 21 balls

Rajat Patidar wasn’t far behind if Will Jacks was chopping open the KKR bowlers. With his own breakthrough songs, the 30-year-old kept the scoreboard buzzing. Rajat Patidar, who has only ever achieved an IPL century here, hit a massive six off Sunil Narine to reach the 50-run mark.

100 runs from nine overs for Royal Challengers Bengaluru

Will Jacks and Rajat Patidar appeared uneasy against the KKR spinners, letting loose. As the visitors were maintaining pace with the needed tempo, impact player Suyash Sharma was struck for 21 runs in his opening 1.2 overs.

150 runs from 12.2 overs for Royal Challengers Bengaluru

Both of RCB’s set batters were dismissed by Andre Russell, who struck twice in a single over. Rajat Patidar fell for 52 after two balls, while Will Jacks was caught by Angkrish Raghuvanshi for 55. After reaching 150 off a massive six from Sunil Narine, Cameron Green fell in the next ball.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru: 2nd Strategic time-out (181/6 from 16 overs)

Sunil Narine took two wickets in an over, much like Andre Russell did, severely undermining the hopes of the Royal Challenge Busters. However, Suyash Prabhudesai and Dinesh Karthik managed to keep the side in the game; 42 runs from 4 fours were needed to win.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru end the match with a 221 all-out after 20 overs.

Karn Sharma struck Mitchell Starc for a first-ball six, with the last over needing 21 runs. The Australian pacer got the edge of the bat on the following delivery, but the keeper did not get a catch. Two sixes off two balls followed this to make it three runs from two balls. Despite this, Mitchell Starc maintained his composure to claim a return catch and dispatch Karn Sharma. In a thrilling contest, KKR prevailed by a single run by maintaining their composure.
